Black Thought Speaks On His Trending Freestyle

When Black Thought hit Hot 97 on December 13th, he gave Funkmaster Flex a freestyle that really got people talking. The Roots legend found himself the number one trending topic on Twitter. Reactions to his ten minute long lyrical adventure, not only reached fans but a few of his rap peers, such as Diddy. Diddy went on to say that it's "the greatest freestyle in Hip Hop history".

Yesterday, he sat down with Jimmy Fallon where he was interviewed about this freestyle. During the conversation, Black Thought confirmed it was, indeed, off the top. (Wow.)

I planned on doing 10 to 15 minutes. Here’s the thing - Funkmaster Flex Hot 97 freestyles - it’s an iconic moment. It’s super meaningful for a rapper to get that platform. In recent weeks, recent months, I’ve been checking out videos and the bar has been set kind of high. People go on for six, eight, nine minutes or so.
