Neither Kid Cudi's Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin nor Gucci Mane's The Return Of East Atlanta Santa had particularly notable first weeks.

Cudi's sixth album did 47,736 sales plus streaming, according to Hits Daily Double. Mane's second album since being released from prison racked up 33,198 SPS.

For Cudi, that's an improvement from his last album, 2015's critically panned Speedin' Bullet 2 Heaven, which only did 19,365 first week.

Gucci's going the other direction, as July's Everybody's Looking had done 68K first week. There's probably some wisdom in waiting more than five months between albums, but Guwop just can't quit.

There was also interesting action with the two biggest releases of December: The Weeknd's Starboy and J. Cole's 4 Your Eyes Only.

Cole had the bigger opening week (511K vs. 366K.) However, Weeknd did more last week (100,320 vs. 91,055) even though his album has been out three weeks to Cole's two.

This suggests Weeknd is getting the better word of mouth.

Did you hear any good albums this week?
