Chris Brown is facing criminal charges for having a pet monkey. 

TMZ reports that the Los Angeles City Attorney is slapping the R&B singer with two counts of having a restricted species without a permit, which carries a six month prison sentence. 

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife was contacted by folks who knew Brown owned the monkey, and when authorities came to his house they found out that he didn't have a permit.  So they left, got a warrant and was going to raid his home, but he handed over the monkey voluntarily. He'll face the charges in court on Feb. 6.

This isn't the first legal situation Brown has been in this year. He was arrested in Florida on an assault warrant and was also sued by a woman who said she was raped at his home.
