When The Notorious B.I.G.'s posthumous hit 'Mo Money Mo Problems' dropped, Hottie & The Blowfish were a few years into their mid-90s chart domination.

So when Mase -- who was featured on the track -- made reference to Hootie in its bars, it was pretty much understand that he was talking about the roots rock band's frontman, who's actually named Darius Rucker.

Stay humble, stay low, blow like Hootie True pimp niggas spend no dough on the booty, Mase rapped
Rucker was on the Dan Patrick Show early this week, and he disclosed the genesis of those bars came from running into Biggie at the Grammys.

"We were at the Grammys… and some really hot girl walks by. One of [Biggie's] boys was like, ‘I’ll pay her,’ just as a joke. I go. ‘Man, I’m not paying for it.’ We laughed and then his next record, he’s got a line that goes. ‘Stay humble, stay low, blow like Hootie/True pimp niggas spend no dough on the booty.’ Great line."
Darius Rucker: True pimp nigga. (The B.I.G talk starts at the 3:20 mark.)
