Drake & Future's 'WATTBA' Takes Big Sales Hit Between Week 1 And 2

Drake and Future's  mixtape/album What A Time To Be Alive had a huge first week, moving 334,000 units.

It did 65,000 in its second week. Not so bad, in this day and age. But a pretty steep decline from its first week. In fact, that 81 percent drop is one of the biggest in chart history.

There are several caveats to that, though.

1) That's just based on sales, not streams. If you add streams the drop is still large, but the percentage goes down.

2) Drake and Future are in good company. Here are some albums which had similar drops:

Mac Miller's Blue Slide Park (83% – 144,000 to 25,000) Kanye West's Yeezus (80% – 327,000 to 65,000) Jay Z’s Kingdom Come (79% – 680,000 to 140,000) Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (78% – 496,000 to 108,000).

3) WATTBA was somewhat of a "surprise" project -- and startling your fan base with new material probably artificially pumps up first week sales.

Nevertheless, such a big drop between the two weeks suggests word of mouth on the album isn't that terrific.

Have you listened to What A Time To Be Alive? If so what did you think?
