Guns N'Roses Guitarist Slash Calls Modern Hip Hop Generic

Back when Slash's band Guns N Roses put up sales numbers most acts today can only dream of, Rock ruled the airwaves.

That's not the case anymore. This week nine of the ten top charting songs on Billboard Hot 100 featured a rapper, and the biggest albums of 2018 belong to Drake, Travis Scott, Eminem Post Malone, and J. Cole.

In a new interview with The USA Today, Slash said he's not really sweating that. In fact, he thinks Rock is in a good place whereas Hip Hop has become too generic.

"Rock isn't mainstream anymore, and in some ways, I like that," Slash says. "It harks back to when rock 'n' roll was more of an underground concept, when people were speaking about things that they weren't necessarily comfortable saying in the mainstream arena. As far as hip-hop is concerned, it's become so generic at this point. It's definitely taken on a very top-40 thing."

Do you agree with the 53-year old guitar legend?
