Iggy Azalea Wonders Why Eminem Didn't Face Racial Backlash For Grammy Win

Going into the Grammys, Iggy Azalea's The New Classic was the favorite to win Best Rap Album.

That's because it was pretty bad year for rap generally, and the Grammys have a tendency to reward the kind of white-washed commercially successfully fare that Iggy had put out.

The backlash against Azalea -- which had a lot to do with her being an Australian who came to the United States and "appropriated" black culture -- accelerated once she received the nomination. She didn't win, and Iggy told Power 106’s The Cruz Show in a new interview that this was a good thing.

"I did not want to win that award," Iggy explained in the interview. "My speech would have been like, 'Fuck this! I don’t want it! Take it! Get it away from me!'"
Instead, Eminem took his record sixth Best Rap Album Grammy for The Marshall Mathers LP 2 -- an album that is considered one of his weaker efforts.

During the interview, Iggy expressed surprise that Eminem's win wasn't scrutinized in racial terms like hers would have been.

"I found it to be kind of ironic. It was because I’m white because therefore I'm appropriating culture,” said Iggy. "But then Eminem won it – who’s white and won it many times – and they didn't seem to say anything about that."
Iggy recently dropped off social media, in part because she couldn't stop pissing people off by saying stupid things. Should she ban herself from radio as well, or does she have a point about Shady?
