Believe it or not, it's been six years since Kanye West dropped his critically acclaimed My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album, and it has Pusha T feeling a little nostalgic.
To make the album, Ye flew a who's-who list of rappers and producers to Hawaii, King Push being one of them. Last night, Push thanked his beleaguered G.O.O.D music boss for giving him such a huge opportunity.
"Six years ago today I was part of one of the greatest Hip Hop albums ever," wrote the Virginia Beach rapper. "You invited me to Hawaii and said 'Pick whatever tracks you love and write to all of them.' I got greedy. I stopped going to play basketball with you every morning and proceeded to write to 8 songs on your album."Pusha then said that Kanye kept two of his verses, the one he wrote for "Runaway," the album's first single and "So Appalled," where he got to rhyme alongside Jay Z of all people.
"Which put me on a song with you, Hov, Cyhi, Swizz and produced by RZA," he wrote.Pusha also said the opportunity gave him confidence as a solo artist, since he's been in a group with his older brother No Malice since the beginning of his career.
"Looking back on it, it really was all a set up," he wrote. "You were setting me up to be the solo artist I never saw myself."With West being hospitalized with what is being called temporary psychosis, a kind letter like Pusha's couldn't be any more timely.
