The Early Streaming Numbers On Drake's "Scorpion" Are Record Shattering

The first week sales on Drake's fifth album Scorpion are expected to be huge.

They may end up being better than expected.

Here's what HITS Daily Double wrote about Scorpion this morning.

Since blasting off the launchpad early Friday morning, Drake’s Scorpion is rocketing into the stratosphere like nothing before it in the streaming era, as the 25-track album sets new records by the hour. Will it be the first album ever to blaze past 1 billion streams in its first week?

Scorpion is averaging 10m streams per hour at Spotify, and its tracks occupy the Top 25 slots at Apple Music. Buckle up, because we’re watching history being made in real time ... How big will Scorpion get? The sky's the limit.

Drake's last album, 2016's Views, did 1.07m first week. Since then, only Taylor Swift's Reputation has topped a million and nobody else has been close.

The all-time first-week record in the SoundScan era (post-1991) is the ridiculous 3.38m Adele put up in 2015 with 25. That's not in play.

But if Drake can top a million again he will join Swift (four times), Eminem (2), *NSYNC (2) and The Backstreet Boys (2) as the only acts to hit seven figures in seven days more than once.
