It was probably the best catch ex-college football player Phillip Blanks ever made.

TMZ released a video on Wednesday that shows him catching a 3-year-old who was thrown from the balcony of a burning building in Phoenix.

The 28-year old former wide receiver jumped into action after noticing that a 30-year-old woman was about to throw her child down.

Sadly, the mother passed away in the blaze, while the 3-year-old and an 8-year-old were treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

"There wasn't much thinking. I just reacted. I just did it," Blanks told ABC7. "The guy who was there with me ... it looked like he wasn't going to catch him. So that's why I stepped in. I just wanted to make a better catch."

Blanks then spoke about the child's mother.

"She's the real hero of the story," he said. "Because she made the ultimate sacrifice to save her children."

The heroic 28-year-old played football at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo, CA.

What do you think about his actions?
