YNW Melly is on trial for two counts of first-degree murder starts.
The 22-year-old has been locked up since February of 2019 for killing his crew members YNW Juvy and YNW Sakchaser. The forensic and DNA evidence against him is substantial.
He had been facing the death penalty. But that is now off the table.
Florida’s criminal procedure stature states that prosecutors must give notice of the intent to seek the death penalty. Melly's lawyers noticed that notice wasn't filed in time and a judge agreed, throwing out the death penalty option.
Melly could still get life.
