Last month, it was reported that 50 Cent was a Bitcoin millionaire.
Fif accepted the cryptocurrency for his 2014 album Animal Ambition and pulled in about 700 of them. Bitcoin was at $662 when Animal Ambition debuted and is now at $10,000, meaning 50 would have around $7 million worth of Bitcoin.
TMZ first reported 50's Bitcoin largess and 50 cosigned the story by tweeting about it.
He's now deleted that Tweet. Perhaps because in a recent sworn deposition to bankruptcy court 50 said "[I have] never owned and [do] not now own, a Bitcoin account or any Bitcoins."
He did acknowledge some online album and merchandise sales may have been made in Bitcoin. But those Bitcoins were immediately transferred into dollars, so he never possessed them nor did he benefit from the cryptocurrency's stunning rise last year.
Oh well.
Update: Here's what 50 said about the initial story in bankruptcy court.
“As a general matter, so long as a press story is not irreparably damaging to my image or brand, I usually do not feel the need to publicly deny the reporting… This is particularly true when I feel the press report in question is favorable to my image or brand, even if the report is based on a misunderstanding of the facts or contains outright falsehoods.”
