50 Cent Speaks On the Sales Boost Eminem Gave Him

50 Cent's first album Get Rich Or Die Tryin' was a massive hit.  During Fif's chat with Lil Wayne, he explained that his association with Eminem played a huge role in how much the project sold.

"Being in connection to Em I say this sh*t openly, right. I don’t think you would sell 14 million records without Eminem. Because that connection makes them understand how you fit into the culture ... Hip Hop is culture is Black music.  When you look at his circumstances, everybody around him is African American. Proof and Denaun and all parts of D12. And when he is that f*cking good, and okay, I see where I fit. And for me, for my journey,  “You like hip hop. Who do you like?” And they like, “Ugh, I like Eminem and I like…” That was their first question. And if they say they like me after, I can see why you turn on to me because I am down with him. And Dre. Dre would make credibility in Em as a foundation. That connection would mean credibility. This guy is with NWA. When I come and I connect to it, it allows you to do [more]. Look, my man, you had to be 2Pac, make a double CD and die in the process to go down as an African American artist in the hip hop culture. So when I come and do 13 million records for the first album it creates the kind of confusion you can’t believe."

According to Billboard, Get Rich Or Die Tryin' is certified 9 times platinum, meaning it's sold between nine and ten million.  That doesn't mean 50's claim it's in the 13 to 14 million range is wrong, as there are different ways to count.  (He could also be including overseas sales.)

Anyway, do you agree that Em gave 50 the boost to be able to sell like Pac without having to die tryin'?
