After A$AP Yams died in January, A$AP Rocky was among those who pushed back hard against the chatter that Yams had overdosed on Xanax and lean.
But it turns out Rocky was simply being protective of his A$AP brother's legacy, and knew very well that drugs contributed to Yams' death.
In an interview with the New York Times, Rocky detailed Yams' long struggle with substance abuse. He also talked about being in the Brooklyn apartment Yams shared with A$AP Lou on the night that the 26-year old died, and discovering his close friend's body.
Yams wouldn't wake up, and there was vomit on the bed. They turned him over. "I just look at his face. I look at Lou. You could just tell. We knew," Rocky said. "I was scared," he said. "I was wilding on everybody, like, 'Who let him do drugs?,' even though you can’t blame nobody."Rocky and Lou tried to contact emergency services but it was too late to save Yams.
Last week, New York's Chief Medical Examiner’s reported that Yams died accidentally of an acute mix of opiates [Codeine] benzodiazepine [Xanax].
