Beyonce Once Turned Down A Coldplay Collab Because It Was Awful

If it wasn't for Cam Newton, Coldplay would have been the Super Bowl's biggest losers last night.

The British band seemed an odd pick to play the halftime show. They only have a couple songs the average American knows, and their best and most famous hit ('Yellow') is just too mellow to play during the biggest TV night of the year.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin tried his best and jumped around like a maniac, but he just wasn't connecting.

Luckily, Beyonce and Bruno Mars were there to bring some familiarity (and actual dance moves) to the show.

Martin and Beyonce are pretty good pals, and in the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone he talks about the time she turned down a collaboration with him.

He's open to constructive criticism, especially from Beyoncé. Martin once presented a song to Beyoncé called 'Hook Up' and played it in the studio for her and producer Stargate. She turned it down, he says, "in the sweetest possible way: She told me, 'I really like you – but this is awful.'"
Beyonce isn't the first famous artist to politely decline a Coldplay song. Martin has also told the story of the late David Bowie turning down a collaboration with the band, telling him that the track was "not one of your best."

Oh well, Coldplay will always have their 80 plus million albums sold (worldwide) to fall back on.
