In 1998, Birdman signed a legendary three-year $30 million pressing and distribution with Universal.

It came with a $3 million advance and gave Cash Money  85% of its royalties, 50% of its publishing, and ownership of all its masters.

According to Baby, the deal only came to pass because J. Prince passed.

During a Clubhouse discussion, Birdman says he first came to the Rap-a-Lot boss for a distribution deal.

But Prince told him he couldn't do something that big.

"I tried to sign with the old man before I went to Universal ... I wanted to sign with J. Prince, but he didn't have the structure to sign me.  And what I respect about it is he said ,'Y'all go do y'all own, bro, because I can't do it.' That's what I honor about him."
