Freddie Gibbs's album Alfredo lost Best Album to Nas's King's Disease at The Grammys this year.
It was probably a bitter pill for Gibbs to swallow since it was generally considered a lifetime achievement award for the previously Grammy-less Nas, rather than a comment on the quality of his album vs. the other nominees.
However, it could be worse. Gibbs could be in Kendrick Lamar in 2014.
“If you’re gonna lose to somebody, you’re gonna want to lose to Nas,” Gibbs told Mixmag. “Nas is a hall of fame MC. If anything it just shows how great I am to lose to such an MC. I could’ve lost to Macklemore or something.”
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis's The Heist notoriously won the 2014 Grammy Award For Best Rap Album over Kendrick Lamar's Good Kid M.A.A.D City.
