Kendrick Lamar is definitely a critics' darling.
But is all that love for K.Dot's jazzy sound and his political, introspective lyrics devaluing street rap?
French had already posed the question “Why isn’t street rap selling like Kendrick?" on the intro to his new tape Wave Gods.
He elaborated during a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, when Charlamagne asked him what he meant by the line.
What do you think of French's words? Is the music industry conspiring to get rid of the French Montana's of the world by promoting Kendrick Lamar?“Because they position [Kendrick], like how they did at the Grammys, as the new music,” he said. “I don’t feel like that’s… It’s not that it’s not the right thing to do, but I just feel like they… You see like the whole thing was like Kendrick night. That album don't sound like nothing that's out -- the whole Hip Hop game don't sound like that .. they put him on that platform so they can shift music toward that direction.”
