G Herbo sat down with Ebro Darden on Apple Music 1’s Rap Life, at a time when the rapper's new album 25 debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 charts.
During the chat, Herbo talked about Drill music, the rap subgenre that started in Chicago, crossed the ocean to London, and then became big in Brooklyn. According to Herbo, New York rappers gave Drill a fresher sound and he doesn't think they've copied anyone.
“I love what New York did with Drill, the whole movement in general,” he explained. “They took something and enhanced it ... I don’t feel like they took it and tried to like, run with the Chicago style, they made it unique to them, and made it hot and made it fun again. They made it stylish. That’s why I f*ck with it for real.”
Would you say that New York rappers made drill more stylish and gave it a fresher sound?
