Hip Hop Is Streamed More Than Any Other Genre

Hip Hop listeners are increasingly streaming their music, rather than downloading it or buying dinosaur CDs.

While this is an industry wide trend, it is especially prevalent among fans of rap and R&B. Those two genres made up 17 percent of album sales over the past year, but 26 percent of all streams.

Experts attribute this to Hip Hop's young, cellphone-based audience.

The 2015 albums with the most first week streams are:

The Weeknd's Beauty Before The Madness - 57 million Drake's If You're Reading This It's Too Late -- 48 million Drake and Future's What A Time To Be Alive -- 40.3 million streams Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly - 38 million

In comparison, the most streamed album outside of rap and R&B was Mumford and Sons' Wilder Mind, with 15.4 million streams in its first week.
