It's been a good few weeks for Iggy Azalea, as a surprising number of big Hop Hip names have defended her in her various authenticity feuds. But the Australian import may have let the support get to her head a bit because in an interview with GQ she said this when asked about her legacy:
I might be here for a long time. At the very worst, if I have a short-lived career, at least I could say I sparked a change—that I inspired some leniency in what people accept in hip-hop. And if I have a very long career and can be gyrating in a leotard at 35, that would be great. The "sparked a change" line has led to a meme in which participants tweet a baffled looking face over Iggy's self-important words.
Hot 97 personality Ebro is among those promoting the meme, and Iggy struck back at him and his Hot 97 cohorts on Twitter today.
@oldmanebro @HipHopWired u guys are the BIGGEST haters you try to exaggerate everything I say to make it seem like I have a god-like complex — IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) January 23, 2015
@oldmanebro @HipHopWired you never thought the day would come id exist and I'm here. Many love it. DEAL WITH IT LADIES. — IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) January 23, 2015
@oldmanebro @HipHopWired I'm talking about changing who we accept having a voice in hip hop. As the only white, Australian, woman with a 1# — IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) January 23, 2015
@Listen2Kevin where was the "hip hop always had different voices.hush" line when he milked the "great hip hop race debate" 4 clicks — IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) January 23, 2015
@Listen2Kevin I'm glad my voice in rap isn't anything new, now maybe they can stop asking every artist who visits hot 97 about me. — IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) January 23, 2015
@AriiGarciiaaa @Listen2Kevin my main issue with him is, he facilities creating really extreme view points to promote a show. — IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) January 23, 2015
@AriiGarciiaaa @Listen2Kevin says "he" doesn't feel that way about the topic at hand. But then asks baited questions and does shady shit. — IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) January 23, 2015
Iggy continued with her tweeting throughout the day, calling the Hot 97 crew "shade queens" who say nice things to her in private and then bash her on the air. She also likened Ebro to a "bitchy girl at high school."
Is Iggy right about Ebro and Hot 97 having it every which way on her?
