J. Cole On 'Fire Squad': He'd 'Never Go At Eminem' And Says It's Not Iggy Azalea's 'Fault'

J. Cole had the world talking last month with one of his verses on the track 'Fire Squad.' In it, he argued white artists had "snatched the sound" of black music, and seemed to call out Eminem, Justin Timberlake, Macklemore, Elvis Presley and Iggy Azalea as the thieves.

The inclusion of Eminem on that list bothered some folks, included Shady's Detroit homie Trick-Trick who threatened to close the gates of the Motor City on Cole for his perceived disrespect.

Cole quickly diffused that by saying he thought the world of Em, and wasn't in any way trying to diss him. He reiterated this during an interview yesterday with The Combat Jack Show, and also addressed lighting-rod-of-the-moment Iggy Azalea.

In the interview, Cole said he doesn't blame the white Australian import for taking on the vocal mannerisms of a black American -- as others do -- but that doesn't mean he has to think her act is any good.

I'd never go at Eminem," he explained, addressing 'Fire Squad'. "It's not even Iggy Azalea's fault, she's chasing her dream. It doesn't matter the quality of her music but I have to comment, it's my job to tell you what's on my mind in the slickest way ever...When history is told Macklemore is in them books, Iggy Azalea's in them books."
