Kanye West sat down on Jimmy Kimmel's couch for a long interview last night.

They discussed his support of Donald Trump. West said he wasn't going to let his profession and race dictate who he likes.

"Just as a musician, African-American guy out in Hollywood – all these different things, everyone around me tried to pick my candidate for me and then told me every time I said I liked Trump that I couldn't say it out loud or my career would be over, I'd get kicked out (of) the black community, because blacks, we're supposed to have a monolithic thought – we can only be Democrats," he said.

Later in the interview, Kimmel brought up Trump's controversial border policy and Kanye's famous quote about George W. Bush not caring about black people.

"There are literally families being torn apart as a result of what this president is doing, and I think that we cannot forget that whether we like his personality or not, his actions are really what matter," he said. "You’ve so famously and so powerfully said 'George Bush doesn’t care about black people,' it makes me wonder what makes you think that Donald Trump does, or any people at all?"

Instead of an answer, Kanye went silent. After about three seconds, Kimmel went to a commercial break.

Their chat wasn't all politics. Kimmel also brought up the five projects 'Ye produced earlier this summer. Kimmel suggested 'Ye is a workaholic, but West didn't agree.

"No, I actually slept a lot during the project," Kanye replied. "Yeah, I actually have a team. We worked together."

Kanye clarified that he had been putting together samples for the albums for a year and a half. But once it got time to record, it was sort of a snooze.

"We have a whole team at Yeezy Sound that will help come and do the drums, help with lyrics, help with choruses. And I'd give six, seven people ideas that I want on the song, and then I'd just go to sleep."

Check the interview below. 'Ye's telling pause is at about the 10:45 mark.
