Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly was probably rap's most polarizing album of 2015.
Mainstream music mag Rolling Stone has just named it the best album of all in their annual top 50 albums of the year list.
"Musically, lyrically and emotionally, Kendrick Lamar’s third album is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece – a sprawling epic that’s both the year’s most bumptious party music and its most gripping therapy session. The music mag gushes. "A rap superstar at last, after years on the underground grind, Lamar wrestles with the depression and survivor’s guilt that followed his fame and success by turning to heroes from Ralph Ellison and Richard Pryor to Smokey Robinson and Kris Kross to Nelson Mandela and Tupac. He lives large. He contains multitudes."Third on Rolling Stone's list was Drake's surprise album/mixtape If You're Reading This It's Too Late.
Also of note was The Weeknd's Beauty Behind The Madness at number 5, Future's Dirty Sprite 2 at 26, Vince Staples' Summertime 06 at 35, and Rae Sremmurd's SremmLife at 44.
