Last year, Kevin Gates kicked 18-year old fan Miranda Dixon after she grabbed at his shorts during a Florida show.

He was charged with battery, and attempted to use Florida's notorious Stand Your Ground law to have the case dismissed

Gates argued in his Stand Your Ground filings that he had warned Dixon not to touch him and had thought she was trying to pull him off of the stage.

He also addressed the incident in his track 'The Truth':

“She grabbed my dick overreacted I’m sorry / Two or three times I had already warned her” Gates raps.
Last week, Judge Sharon Franklin rejected Gates' motion to dismiss the charge on Stand Your Ground.

"While a simple act of touching or pushing someone without his or her consent may amount to simple battery, the Court finds that such a minor act does not necessarily rise to such a level as to justify the use of force in return," Franklin wrote in her decision to deny Gates' motion.
Gates' next court date is August 25. He faces up to a year in prison if convicted.
