Kid Rock has made himself a very rich man exploring musical genres from rock to country to Hip Hop. But what put him on the map was his take on rap-rock, which was a big deal in the nineties thanks to acts like Kid, Everlast, Limp Bizkit, Cyprus Hill, 311 and The Bloodhound Gang.
Rock is releasing First Kiss, his tenth album, next month. But don't expect to hear any tracks that sound like 'Bawitdaba' on it. In an interview with The Guardian, the 43-year old had this to say about the rap-rock genre that he had such a big influence on.
Rap-rock was what people wanted at the time, and they still love those songs at shows. But it turned into a lot of bullshit and it turned out to be pretty gay… If someone says you can’t say “gay” like that you tell them to go fuck themselves. You’re not going to get anything politically correct out of me.Rap-rock has a long history. From some pretty inspired stuff from the Beastie Boys and Run-DMC to whatever the hell Lil Wayne was doing on Rebirth. It will continue to be attempted as long as there is rap and rock. But do you think Kid Rock is right that the genre tends to wear out its welcome really quick?
