With artists giving away so many of their songs for free and album sales declining, it's becoming harder and harder to make money in the music industry.

But if you score a mega-hit, you're still getting paid. The Robin Thicke featuring Pharrell and T.I. track 'Blurred Lines' was the mega-hit of the summer of 2013.  Marvin Gaye's estate is suing its writers, Thicke and Pharrell, because they believe the track rips off Gaye's 1977 hit  'Got To Give It Up.'

The trial is underway, and it has forced Universal Music to reveal exactly how much money they made on the song, which is something record companies don't like to do.

According to court documents, 'Blurred Lines' has already taken in $16,675,690 in profits, with $5,658,214 going to Thicke, $5,153,457 to Williams, $704,774 to T.I., and the rest to their record companies.

The Gaye estate is also going after Thicke's $11 million in tour revenue, which they attribute to the success of the song, and the track's $8 million in publishing rights.

The trial continues this week.
