Remember when M.I.A. flipped the bird during her brief appearance during Madonna's 2012 Super Bowl halftime show?

M.I.A. certainly does, because the NFL sued her for $16.6 million over the obscene gesture. According to M.I.A., JAY-Z -- who was managing her at the time through Roc Nation -- suggested she sign a very one-sided settlement with the league.

“If you’re talking about racism and sexism, that moment in my life showed the cracks in everyone I knew. I was at Roc Nation at the time and Jay Z was managing me. The lawsuit was so ridiculous, it proposed that they would keep one hundred percent of my earnings for the rest of my life if I ever earned more than $2 million dollars. Jay Z was, like, ‘you should sign that shit’ and I was, like, ‘no,'" M.I.A. told Huck mag.

M.I.A. eventually settled with the NFL in 2014. The terms are undisclosed but one would imagine they are a lot better than the ones Hov allegedly wanted her to sign.

M.I.A. has a history of making reckless and possibly untrue statements in interviews. On the other hand, JAY-Z has a history of looking out for JAY-Z. So who knows if he really advised her to roll over to big business like that.
