Off The Rails Young Thug Trial Could last Three More Years

Earlier this week, a prosecution witness in the Young Thug/YSL RICO trial was so high on the stand that his testimony needed to be paused, adding more time to what will already be the longest trial in Georgia state history.

Yak Gotti is one of the other YSLs being charged by the state.

His lawyer has filed a motion to limit the number of witnesses. As it stands, the defense believes that the trial will last another three years.

“The state, after originally proposing a witness list of over 700 witnesses, has a list of over 400 witnesses it intends to present at trial,” the motion said. “To date, the state has presented approximately 40 witnesses since presentation of witnesses began at the end of November. At the present, representative state, it will take until approximately until October 2026 to complete the presentation of state’s witnesses. Thus, the present trial will take well into at least mid-2027 to complete. This is simply untenable for the remaining 15 jurors or the defendants who remain jailed without bond, and the presentation of another 360 witnesses by the state would cause undue delay, would be a waste of time, and would amount to needless presentation of cumulative evidence.”

Thug and Gotti have been locked up without bail since May of 2022.  If Gotti's lawyer's timeline is correct, they would end up serving five years even if they are found not guilty.

This could violate the Sixth Amendment of the United States Constitution, which guarantees the right to a speedy trial in all criminal prosecutions.
