Two industry heavyweight released non-traditional albums this week, and neither is tearing up the charts.
Beyonce curated, produced and contributed to The Lion King influenced The Lion King: The Gift compilation. HitsDailyDouble projects it to do 50-70k SPS with 13-18k in traditional sales in its first week.
That should be enough to win a very weak week. But if you compare the Childish Gambino, Pharrell Williams, Kendrick Lamar and Tierra Whack featured project to the 154K the Lamar curated and produced Black Panther soundtrack did last year, those aren't strong numbers.
Nas also failed to gain much traction with his compilation album The Lost Tapes 2, which is just slated for a 17-20k, 5-7k.
That's not terrible for old, unreleased material. But given how well thought of the original Lost Tapes is, it's pretty soft.
