Paula Patton Serves Robin Thicke With Divorce Papers As His Awful Year Continues

Robin Thicke was a king of 2013, as his single 'Blurred Lines" ruled the summer. What a difference a year makes. In a continuation of an awful 2014,  the sitcom scion was just served with divorce papers from his wife of nine years Paula Patton. They had been separated for eight months but Thicke had been making every attempt to win his bride back, some of them cringe-worthingly public.

Thicke is currently embroiled in a lawsuit against the estate of Marvin Gaye, who believe Thicke and co-writer Pharrell stole 'Blurred Lines' from the Gaye song 'Got to Give it Up." In court documents, the 37-year old was forced to admit he was drunk and high in the studio when he and Pharrell wrote "Blurred Lines. Additionally, he conceded that it was mostly Pharrell's work, and he only took credit for it when the song became a hit -- the first real one of his career.

A few months ago Thicke also disclosed that it was his infidelity that caused his martial problems.

"I'm a man. I messed up, and I had to lie for awhile," Thicke told Hot 97 in July. "And then I stopped lying. And that was actually good for me, because I was tired of lying. So this whole album is me revealing everything."

That album would be Paula, an ode to his estranged wife that included the single "Get Her Back." The album was a notorious flop, and Thicke did not get her back.

Patton cites  "irreconcilable differences" in her divorce filing. They will share joint custody of their 4-year old son Julian Fuego.

If there is a lesson here -- and we should always look for a lesson -- it's that if you make an album to impress a girl you have to at least move a few units.
