Post Malone Says To Avoid Modern Hip Hop If You Are Looking For Something "Real"

Post Malone's relationship with Hip Hop has always come with some question marks.

He allegedly turned down a chance to be in the 2016 XXL Freshman Class because, as XXL explained, he was moving away from Hip Hop. (Post disputes that and clarified that he opted out of the class because he didn't want to make the six-hour flight for the cover shoot.) 

The 22-year old has also been pretty open about a background and influences that include as much rock and country as Hip Hop and rap. This has lead to speculation that he could be on the Kid Rock career path.

In a new interview with the Polish newspaper Newonce, Posty raised some eyebrows by questioning whether there's any emotional depth in Hip Hop these days.

"If you're looking for lyrics, if you're looking to cry, if you're looking to think about life, don't listen to hip-hop," Post said. "There's great hip-hop songs where they talk about life and they spit that real shit, but right now, there's not a lot of people talking about real shit."
 
"Whenever I want to cry, whenever I want to sit down and have a nice cry, I'll listen to some Bob Dylan," he continued. "Or whenever I'm trying to have a good time and stay in a positive mood, I listen to hip-hop. Because it's fun. I think hip-hop is important because it brings people together in a beautiful, happy way."
