JAY-Z's partnership with the NFL to enhance its on-field product (halftime show) and improve its social justice initiatives has been the subject of much debate.
Some believe he screwed Colin Kaepernick when he took the deal. Especially since Hov had previously encouraged others, like Jermaine Dupri, to stay away from the NFL while the QB remained unemployed. Others called it a "boss" move.
Part of the latter group's argument was the rumor that JAY-Z was going be allowed to buy in as a part-owner of an undisclosed team as part of his deal with the league.
According to NFL insider Jason La Canfora's sources, that rumor is pure cap.
"Multiple people connected to NFL ownership and the league office have told CBS Sports that this TMZ-reported rumor is simply false, that there are no plans in place for the rap legend to become an NFL owner ... Those kinds of deals don't exist in the NFL," as one super-plugged in ownership-level source put it. "There is no ownership component to this arrangement."
According to La Canfora, the rumor is freaking out both the league and Roc Nation.
"And unfortunately, the timing of the report, amid an already-charged atmosphere, has further complicated a murky situation which will take time to play out. Sources said it had people directly tied to the deal -- within the Roc Nation team and within the NFL offices -- scurrying to try to figure out who put the flawed info out there."
If JAY-Z doesn't get any ownership, does that change what you think of the deal?
