Roc Nation Calls For Bundling To Be Banned

The practice of bundling came to the forefront when DJ Khaled complained that some of his bundles -- which included attaching his album sales to sales of an energy drink -- didn't count on the Billboard chart, whereas all of Tyler, The Creator's merch bundles did.

 Roc Nation COO Desiree Perez has now called on all bundling to be banned from the charts.

"That’s exactly our position,” Perez said when asked by Hits Daily Double if Roc Nation favors a bundling ban after its artist DJ Khaled got burned. “Music consumption is the only true metric that should matter. Bundling devalues the art and is demeaning to the artists. It needs to go, and we are urging Billboard to take that step as soon as possible."

Perez then suggested Billboard is allowing bundling because it blunts the force of streaming.

“By now, it’s no secret that Billboard will do anything in its power to blunt streaming’s momentum—whether it’s an arcane formula to calculate streams or arbitrary rules for bundling downloads,” she insists. “So whether numbers or chart positions are affected, I think artists will be excited for a day when everyone is playing by the same rules.”
