TDE tried an interesting strategy to sell Jay Rock's sophomore album 90059.

It was announced that the more fans pre-ordered the album, the sooner it would be released. However the label seemed to abandon that tactic, and then just dropped the album on September 11.

Now we know why: The strategy wasn't generating enough pre-orders to justify it.

According to Hits Daily Double, 90059 is projected to sell between 15,000 - 18,000 sales plus streaming it its first week.

That's not Tyga/Troy Ave level debacle. And it's more than the 5300 units Jay's 2011 debut Follow Me Home opened with But it's still pretty disappointing given the LP's positive reviews and the recent success of TDE artists Kendrick Lamar and ScHoolboy Q.

Have you had a chance to check out 90059? If so, what did you think?
