Shock Stat: 51 Percent Of All Rapper's Deaths Are Homicide

Musicians of all genres have a reputation for living fast, dying young and leaving a good looking corpse.

But when it comes to rappers, that corpse is more often than not the result of a homicide.

Australian Professor Dianna Theadora Kenny examined the deaths of more than 13,000 musicians, and broke down their causes by genre. She found that 51 percent of rappers died of homicide, 15.9 percent accidentally, 7.6 percent of cancer, 6.9 percent heart related and 6.2 percent suicide.

A couple of caveats: This isn't saying 51 percent of all rappers will be murdered, it's just saying 51 percent of rappers who have died have been victims of homicide. Since rap is one of the younger musical genres, rappers tend not to be old enough to die of more natural causes.

That being said, metal and punk are also younger musical genres, and their homicide rates are 5.9 percent and 8.2 percent, respectively.
