Everyone assumed that The Game dissed Eminem for promo and clout.
But it turns out there was more to it.
Game, who has repeatedly said he has nothing but love for Shady, now claims he went after Em in his track "The Black Slim Shady" because he was angry at Em's guy Dr. Dre. [Jump to 1:30]
“Throwing shots at Eminem and beefing with Eminem, it was just me being upset with Dr. Dre,” The Game admitted to DJ Vlad. “Dr. Dre can’t out-rap me, so I just went at Em, just because that’s just how I get sometimes.
But it’s always competitive. It ain’t like I’m gonna see Em and be like, ‘What’s up now?!’ It’s Em, you know what I’m saying? And Em took his shots on a record that dropped, and yo, Em is a funny guy.”
The Game and his team have long pushed back on the narrative that Dr. Dre helped to make Game. According to Game World, Jimmy Iovine pushed Game's career forward, while Dre was skeptical.
"First of all, let's give credit to Jimmy Iovine," Game's manager Wack 100 explained. "Because Dre wanted to put him on the shelf. Iovine put him in [G-Unit.] That was Iovine's call. Facts. Whatever you think Dre did do, let's fast forward to the next album. If you don't want to shut it down for dissing on G-Unit, your budget cut off. Ain't no studio until you comply. F*ck you."
Game was also angry that Dre didn't include him in Dre's Super Bowl Halftime Show.
