When UCLA flies back home to America today, they will leave LiAngelo Ball, Jalen Hill and Cody Riley in the Chinese city of Hangzhou.
The three freshmen missed UCLA's season-opening victory over Georgia Tech last night in Hangzhou because they are under house arrest in the team hotel for stealing from high-end luxury good stores.
A source with firsthand knowledge of the investigation said the players could be in Hangzhou for "a week or two." The source noted that there is surveillance footage of the players shoplifting from three stores inside of a high-end shopping center, which houses Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent and Salvatore Ferragamo stores.
A Chinese citizen or a less important foreigner would get 3 to 8 years for the crimes LiAngelo and his buddies are accused of.
However, UCLA (and likely the US government) are looking for a " quick resolution" to the situation, which we suspect won't involve jail time.
LiAngelo's outspoken dad LaVar Ball, who's been in China, has been fairly quiet on the situation since declaring that "it ain't that big a deal."
