Wale is no longer on Atlantic records
DJBooth has learned that Wale split with the label after his 2017 album Shine. A reason for the split wasn't provided.
"Wale is no longer with us," an Atlantic Records spokesman confirmed with DJBooth.
The track Wale dropped today, "All Star Breakup" -- which sounds like it's about a girl, but ... -- was distributed through MMG and his own Every Blue Moon label.
The DMV native ended up dropping three albums on Atlantic.
2013's Gifted and 2015's The Album About Nothing both opened at number 1.
However, Shine stumbled out of the gate with a 28K SPS first week and never got higher than 16 on the Billboard 200.
So perhaps a new direction was better for both parties.
