Lil Wayne discussed his childhood suicide attempt in more detail than he ever had before on the Carter V track "Let It All Work Out".

I found my momma's pistol where she always hide it
I cry, put it to my head and thought about it
Nobody was home to stop me, so I called my auntie
Hung up, then put the gun up to my heart and pondered
Too much was on my conscience to be smart about it
Too torn apart about it, I aim where my heart was pounding
I shot it, and I woke up with blood all around me
It's mine, I didn't die, but as I was dying
God came to my side and we talked about it
He sold me another life and he made a prophet

In the second part of his joint ESPN interview with Odell Beckham Jr., Wayne opened up about why he went in-depth on that vulnerable moment. A Billboard feature last month had suggested the suicides of Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade encouraged Wayne to open up. However, Wayne said that wasn't the reason.

"I can't say that was because that song has actually been recorded four years ago. I felt that way when I thought the album was coming out. ...  What made me do it was just, [I] was ready to get it off my chest. And if I'm going get it off my chest in any type of way, I might as well make it rhyme."
